I don't see that. I think we step up when Hood comes on.But both are good.

Strange as fans how we have such differing opinions. 

For this past month Hood hasn’t looked as fit or effective for me in his spells. I’m not sure if he’s struggling with an injury but he doesn’t appear to be firing like he was first half of season. Smith has been our best 9 for a few games now. 


That’s not to say Hood won’t find that form again and I’m not saying he’s playing bad either. He’s still putting in a real shift and been solid but with the shorter minutes we are really blooding in Smith who’s definitely impressing and even excelling this season. 


To your point though. Last few games I don’t think we’ve stepped up when Hoods come on. In fact we have started stronger last few weeks than earlier in season where we tended to finish stronger. 

Over the last few weeks I think Smith and Faatili have developed an understanding and are a real dynamic threat, especially close to the line. As long as they're on together I'm not too fussed whether it's starting or after 30 minutes or so, though I lean towards Hood starting for his formidable defensive qualities.

Hull KR is the example I would give for Hood.
Smith played a great game but we were more dynamic when Hood came on and we scored the tries through that.

I agree that Liam looked sensational when he came on a changed the dynamic of the match... Even the commentators noted his contribution... However, that impact was fairly brief and a couple of telling errors followed, mainly (I think) because he was trying too hard. I thought when he came on against Catalans he looked jaded (by comparison to his usual self). 

He has put so much into this last season in super league, I just hope he can finish off with us in style. 


On the flip side Harvey Smith is growing game by game... What a talented kid he is!!
